I thought I would take a moment and introduce myself and my little family. I am Candace and welcome to my world.
I am a full time working mom. Balancing work and my family can be tricky sometimes but I am so fortunate to work for a company that encourages a good work life balance. We are a little family that loves being together and enjoy each other’s company.
I met my lovely hubby at boarding school at 16. We were very firm friends throughout school and only got together after we had matriculated (finished school). We have been together for 14 years and married for seven. I know! … Long time. We moved to London in 2006 to travel and to date, we have been to some amazing places. Thailand, Egypt, Champagne – France, Kuala Lumpur and Rome to name just a few but one of our favourite places to visit is South Africa. We love the African bush, so much so we had our honeymoon near the Kruger National Park. It is a country that has so much to offer and we find something new every time we go home.
Our wonderful daughter Emily was born in September 2012. It was simply the most wonderful day of our lives. She is a feisty, independent and strong willed little girl who certainly gives us a run for our money and we wouldn’t want it any other way. I learn how to be patient, humble and giving, through her. She teaches me far more than I think I am teaching her at the moment.
Most of our family live in South Africa and it can be testing to have them live so far away. Not just for the additional help that family members offer to a new family but also the relationships I feel Emily is missing out on. We go home every two years and we have a trip planned for next month with Emily and I going two weeks ahead of Matthew. I am very excited about posting our South African adventures here. As well as how I travelled on my own with a toddler… The long haul flight will be my biggest test!
We have a wonderful clan of friends and some family that surround us here in London and we love them all to bits! When you live that far away from your extended family, it’s these relationships that make life away from home worthwhile. Friends are the family you choose and our London friends certainly have become our family!
So, with our next South African holiday around the corner, all I can say is… Watch this space!!
